Our Policy on Advertising or Endorsing Commercial Products

For Sellers of Commercial Products:

As a general rule, Safer Child, Inc. does not endorse nor recommend commercial products. At this time, our policy is to link almost exclusively to noncommercial organizations. Exceptions include certain children's books, parenting books, parenting or professional workshops, and most Internet filtering devices.

We frequently receive information, however, on other commercial services or products that have to do with child health or safety, and in response to several requests, as of May 2007, we are again considering adding a page that would advertise some of them.

Therefore, we are glad to hear about new products or services. This gives us the opportunity to let our audience know that such items or services are available for purchase. If you have a product or service you would like us to know about, please contact us. Our board is currently discussing the issue of advertising and, if approved, we will develop a price plan within the next few months.

Meanwhile, if you would like to send us a complimentary sample or copy of a particular product or book, we are happy to review it and perhaps suggest it or donate it to someone who might find it useful.

For Parents, Caregivers and Other Concerned Adults:

We highly recommend that before using any commercial product -- especially a product you are buying second-hand -- you conduct an in-depth inquiry. This inquiry might include contacting the manufacturer or a consumer protection organization such as one of those listed below.

Do not assume that simply because a product is for sale, it must be safe. Many unsafe products are sold every year, and children are injured or killed every year from products from reputable companies.

Do your own research, and also rely on your instincts. If you have doubts about a product, if you struggle with a product, if the product looks like it has the potential to injure, if it's broken or cracked, if it's wobbly or otherwise unstable, if (with books) your heart disagrees with its premise --- we suggest you pay attention to your doubts and take steps to check on the product, repair the product, or to remove the product from your life. You can obtain advice from an expert you trust or from one of the organizations below. If you aren't sure where to call, let us know, and we'll try to help.
