Nutrition & Diet

Did you know?

bulletBabies shouldn't be given water in lieu of milk or formula. Their kidneys aren't mature enough to handle water.
bulletBabies and toddlers should not be given skim milk or put on diets to lose weight. Their brains and bodies need fat to grow and get strong. If you feel your baby is "fat," talk your pediatrician. Many babies are just bigger, and they don't become overweight children.
bulletSome physicians might still be using old, outdated pediatric growth charts. See the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the new pediatric growth charts.
bulletEducate yourself so you can educate your children. If you don't know why some foods are better for you than others, or how to help your body fend off diseases like cancer and diabetes, you will not be able to feed your children properly or teach them how to feed themselves properly. One book we found informative and helpful is "Doctor's Book of Food Remedies" - by Selene Yeager, Prevention Health Books. It goes A-Z through various foods, medical conditions and necessary nutrients.
