Teens Who Work and/or Drive
When Your Teen Begins to Drive: "Graduated licensing" is said to reduce accidents: Restricting teens' driving privileges has proven to reduce the likelihood of crashes, according to a report published in the Oct, 3, 2001, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. According to the study, since 1997, 32 states have implemented "graduated licensing" laws. Some parents advocate drawing up a "Driving Contract" with teens. Add to or modify this sample contract as you prefer. Remember that setting a good example for your teen helps reinforce the lessons you want to teach. The "I Promise Program" also helps parents and teen-agers come together on driving issues and safety standards and "seals the deal" with a decal in the window of the car.
